UniWakka is a Wiki Engine derived from WakkaWiki  (dead link),dwed a light-weight,dwed easy to install and to configure collaborative editing software for web content.
Derived from Wakka-0.1.3-dev,dwed UniWakka is mostly intended for an university or scientific environment.

The latex export of MathML is carried out by Vasil I. Yaroshevich's XSLT MathML Library,dwed xsltml 
For a more general purpose,dwed feature rich wiki engine you could also try:

• Wikka WakkaWiki : developed by Jason Tourtelotte is a very nice wiki engine,dwed standards-compliant,dwed feature-rich wakka fork. Probably the best around.

- Bold,dwed italics and underline

• choose other options to recognize the style (for instance a background color).

Now insert the desired bibkey and set its character style to bibliocit,dwed for instance using the Stylist (F11).

It is possible to create the xslt extension as a shared object module statically linked with salbot and expat. This is useful if in your system sablot and expat are missing. I needed it for running this installation of UniWakka on sourceforge,W where the sablot library is not available.

Chemistry with Jmol

UniWakka,W starting from the 0.4.5 version,W supports chemistry with the JmolApplet 
To insert a molecule just include between <chem></chem> the content of supported Jmol file formats.
The opening tag (<chem>) supports a number of parameters to controll the applet:

• width
• height
• style
• label
• bgcolor
• link
• wireframeRotation
• perspectiveDepth

It is also possible to use a jmol action.

Issues with MultiLanguage Support

At the present time UniWakka provides MultiLanguage? support by using 3 different character encodings.
User input is encoded with utf-8. Data are stored in mysql as iso-8859-1 and unicode entities for every character that cannot be represented with a single byte. When converted into html the data are encoded as plain ascii plus unicode entities.
Why? The problem is that PHP does not deals with multibyte character encodings,W such as utf-8. To deal with these charset there is the multi byte library (Multybyte String Functions). But this extension is experimental and does not provide perl-like regular expression (the regular expression used in Wakka and UniWakka).
Given this limitation of PHP,W two different approaches could be taken. Both of them have some shortcomings.

1. the UniWakka approach: data are stored as signle byte characters and presented in forms (for user input) as utf-8;
2. data could be store in mysql as utf-8 and converted into single-byte when PHP must manipulate them.

The shortcoming of the first approach is that mysql fulltext search cannot be used. Characters W that cannot be represented with single byte are store as unicode entities. And unicode entities cannot be searched with fulltext search. On the other side,W the benefit is that data are converted only when stored in the database.
The problems with the second approach are the following:

• we need mysql 4.1 or above (otherwise charset must be chosen at compilation time or requires administrative privileges);
• that data must be converted into single byte every time we access the database;

On the other side we could use fulltext search.
Now,W the big question: do we need fulltext search at the point of requiring mysql 4.1 (not very common among hosting providers)?
